Tyler Niese Accident Henry County, OH – Juvenile Passenger Killed, Another Critically Injured Following Henry County Crash

A tragic two-vehicle crash in Henry County on Saturday afternoon claimed the life of a juvenile passenger and left another seriously injured, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the collision at approximately 4:46 p.m. at the intersection of County Road Y and County Road 18 in Pleasant Township. Preliminary findings indicate that a 17-year-old male from New Bavaria was driving southbound on County Road 18 when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection with County Road Y.

Authorities said the vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a westbound vehicle driven by Tyler Niese, 38, of Leipsic.

One juvenile passenger riding in the southbound vehicle suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been publicly released. A second juvenile passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Defiance Hospital before being airlifted to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo for advanced treatment.

Tyler Niese was transported to Defiance Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The 17-year-old driver was treated at the scene.

The devastating crash prompted a large emergency response involving the Holgate Fire Department, New Bavaria Fire Department, Henry County South Joint EMS, two EMS units from Putnam County, ProMedica Air Ambulance, and Life Flight Air Ambulance.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities noted that the crash remains under active investigation and have not released additional details regarding the deceased juvenile.

The heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of roadway safety and the potentially devastating consequences that can result from a missed stop sign. As the investigation continues, family members, friends, and the broader Henry County community are mourning the loss of a young life while hoping for the recovery of those injured in the crash.
