Sunil Sharma Missing – Melbourne Family Desperate for Answers After Retired Teacher Vanishes in India

A Melbourne-based family is desperately seeking answers after 66-year-old Australian citizen Sunil Sharma went missing during a trip to India, where he had travelled to manage the sale of a family property in Punjab’s Amritsar district.

According to his daughter, Surbhi Sharma, the retired high school mathematics teacher was last in contact with family members on Friday while supervising renovation work at the property. Concern quickly grew after relatives and friends were unable to reach him the following day, prompting fears for his safety.

Local police in Punjab have since launched an investigation into the mysterious disappearance and are reportedly exploring several possibilities, including abduction or extortion. Authorities have confirmed that Sharma’s vehicle has also disappeared, adding to the growing concern surrounding the case.

Investigators are currently searching for Sharma’s brother, who was reportedly last seen at the property before both men vanished. Police also wish to question a prospective buyer who had recently visited the home as part of ongoing inquiries into the disappearance.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has confirmed it is providing consular support to the family, while both the Australian Embassy in India and Interpol have been informed of the situation.

Surbhi Sharma described the ordeal as emotionally devastating for the family, who remain in constant fear and uncertainty while awaiting answers. Due to concerns surrounding a possible kidnapping case and safety risks, the family has chosen not to immediately travel to India.

Friends and loved ones describe Sunil Sharma as a respected educator, devoted family man, and compassionate person who spent many years teaching mathematics before retirement. Those close to him say his sudden disappearance is completely out of character and has left everyone deeply worried.

As investigations continue in Punjab, the family remains hopeful that Sunil Sharma is safe and will soon make contact. Support and prayers continue pouring in from members of the Melbourne community and beyond as loved ones anxiously wait for updates in the troubling case.
